BILL JENKINS, CHIEF JAILER
The Logan County Detention Center is a full service, county operated, correctional facility. The jail has 123 beds housing adult male and female inmate prisoners. The Logan County Detention Center was opened on January 11, 2000, replacing the old 41 bed county jail that was located on Owen Street. The state of Kentucky is the only state in the United States in which county jails are overseen and operated by an Elected Jailer and not by the Sheriff of the county.
The purpose of the Logan County Detention Center is to protect the community by securely lodging and housing persons who are determined by the courts of the state of Kentucky, especially the Seventh Judicial District, to pose a threat to public safety. It is the ethical and the legal obligation of the Logan County Chief Jailer and his Deputies to provide a safe, sanitary, and secure place of incarceration for these persons. It is our goal to return inmates to society and their community in better condition physically and emotionally than when they were committed to our care and custody. However, the decision of rehabilitation is a personal decision that can only be made by each individual who is lodged in our correctional facility.
