JAIL WORK PROGRAM

The Logan County Detention Center is committed to community based inmate work programs.  The Logan County Chief Jailer and the Restricted Custody Center Director work closely with approved work supervisors to use inmate labor to complete worthwhile tasks and community service projects.  The Logan County Detention Center Class D Director screens and provides State Inmates to work in these programs, along with sentenced county inmates from Logan County District Court.  The inmates placed in the off-site work programs are very low security risk with low security levels of custody.  Some of the daily work programs that we provide labor are:  City of Russellville Parks and Recreation; Street Department; Water and Sewer Department; Good Samaritan; Logan County Animal Shelter; City of Auburn Parks; Auburn Library; Road Litter Abatement Crew; Recycling Pick Up; Greenridge Park; Russellville Cemetery; Historic Russellville; Logan County Genealogical Society; Russellville Rural Fire Department; Russellville City Fire Departmrnt; Logan County High School; Boy Scout Camp; and many others.  The Logan County Detention Center Staff will work with any non-profit organization to help complete tasks as long as inmate manpower is available.  Organizations may call the jail at 726-3696 to speak with Lt. Dewayne Reynolds for assistance on projects and time frames for completion.  There are periods of time when inmate labor is in high demand, and we cannot help with your projects.  We just have around 40 inmates who are insured for accidents and can work on the many off-site projects.  Yes, we have $25,000 accident coverage on each community service inmate working off site.   We must have ample time, two weeks or more,  to make plans to work on your projects.

The Logan County Detention Center is committed to offering quality programs to our inmate population.  The jail currently offers these programs inside the facility:

BRASS Program

The Barren River Area Safe Space counselors come to the facility and offer spouse abuse counseling to our female inmates.

Adult Education Program (GED)

The facility has certified Adult Education teachers on staff, and classes are held weekly.  When inmates progress in their studies, arrangements are made for jail staff to transport the inmates to General Education Diploma testing.  Many inmates have achieved their GED while in our facility.

Alcoholics Anonymous Counseling

The Alcoholics Anonymous counselors come to the jail on a weekly basis to afford the inmate population the opportunity to attend the same Alcoholics Anonymous programs offered in the community.

Narcotics Anonymous Counseling

The Narcotics Anonymous counselors come to the jail on a twice monthly basis to afford the inmate population the opportunity to attend the same Narcotics Anonymous programs offered in the community.

Child Parenting Program

The inmate population is instructed and taught parenting skills by our GED staff instructors.  These include:  reading with children, coloring, watching movies, talking about problems, etc.  After instruction, the children are brought on site for the inmates to practice the skills they learn.  This is a very successful program.

Library Program - Law Book Research

The inmate population can attend our library for a wide selection of reading material.  The facility keeps up-to-date Kentucky Law Library books and references for the inmates' use.

Religious and Bible Study Programs

All of these programs are strictly voluntary and are very popular with the inmate population.  We currently have nearly twenty different church groups from all denominations coming to the jail for numerous programs monthly.  We have regular worship services, and we have Bible study.

Job Interview/Resume Program

The Adult Education instructors spend time with inmates nearing release to teach them the proper way to fill out job applications, how to conduct themselves during job interviews, and how to write a resume properly.  If inmates can return to the community and find employment, they may not be repeat offenders.
